DESCRIPTION OF MAIN INGREDIENTS
1. Rare Japanese “Hanabiratake” Mushroom
- Hanabiratake Mushrooms or sparassis crispa is a mushroom grown in Japan whose properties have been proven by scientific research. It has been attracting attention of multiple researchers for its medicinal properties, primarily immunomodulatory.
- It has gained popularity as a medicinal mushroom and researchers have discovered the substance in the various edible mushrooms that is thought to be responsible for their remarkable health benefits, and exceptional content beta-glucan (β-glucan), a polysaccharide. Β-glucan is a powerful immune system strengthener and its effectiveness has been substantiated by the results of more than 100 clinical studies performed since the 1980s, of which many were performed in Japan.
- According to the results of multiple studies, Hanabiratake contains a substantial amount of 1-3 beta glucan, the substance capable of activating human body’s natural resistivity powers and possess antitumor activities and enhances hematopoietic response.
- In addition it contains multiple anti-microbial agents as well as active terpenoid compounds and phthalides that have been implicated in its anti-cancer activity.
Also, due to the successful research at the Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, the artificial cultivation of this rare hanabiratake mushroom species, has now become possible. - Additionally, Japanese studies have also shown that cancerous mice fed with crispa for 5 weeks reduced tumor sizes and prolonged survival times by increasing the overall immunization and defense system. When compared with Agaricussubrufescens (another species of mushroom with purported medicinal properties), the hanabiratake used in this formulation shows 4 times more amount of Beta-Glucan

2. Meshimakobu Mushroom
- Meshimakobu Mushroom (Phellinuslinteus in Latin, black hoof fungus in English, Japanese “Meshimakobu”, Chinese “Song gen”, Korean “Sanghwang”) is a medicinal mushroom used in Japan, Korea and China for centuries to prevent ailments as diverse as gastroenteric dysfunction, diarrhea, haemorrhage and cancers.
- Early research has suggested that Phellinus linteus has anti-breast cancer activity.
- In Chinese History, the great Emperor Qin (Qin Shi Huang, 259 B.C.- 220 B.C.) sent 3,000 explorers to Japan’s islands to search for the elixir of eternal youth. The Kinoko named Meshimakobu was believed to be the elixir he found.
- Meshimakobu is parasitic mushroom residing on mulberry trees and it is a very rare mushroom species. Compared to reishi, maitake, shiitake, chagacordyceps, agaricusblazei, and cordyceps, this mushroom more potently enhances macrophage activity because of the large amount of β-glucan in its mycelia.

- Despite Meshimakobu being a rare mushroom, advances in Japanese technology have made it possible to culture in a special tank a large quantity of its mycelia, which contain more polyphenols (antioxidant agents) than in the rest of the different mushroom species.
- Nine compounds were isolated from the active ethylacetate fraction of the fruiting body and identified as protocatechuic acid, protocatechualdehyde, caffeic acid, ellagic acid, hispidin, davallialactone, hypholomine B, interfungins A and inoscavin A of which interfungins A is a potent inhibitor of protein glycation.Extracts from fruit-bodies or mycelium of Phellinuslinteus stimulate the hormonal and cell-mediated immune function; quench the inflammatory reactions caused by a variety of stimuli, and suppress tumor growth and metastasis.

- Hispidin, a phenolic compound from Phellinuslinteus (a medicinal mushroom), has been shown to possess strong antioxidant, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties. Hispidin can protect against peroxynitrite-mediated cytotoxicity, DNA damage and hydroxyl radical formation.
- Therefore, sulfated beta-glucan extracted from Phellinuslinteus may be beneficial for immune support due to its incorporation of functional groups into its polymer structure. Proteoglycan (P1) purified from Phellinuslinteus has been reported to have anti-disease activities.
Among the many kinds of polyphonols found in this mushroom, caffeic acid is very unique. Caffeic acid is usually contained in coffee, although it is not related to caffeine. Japanese scientists discovered caffeic acid in Meshimakobu! The significance of caffeic acid is that it is a selective inhibitor of leukotriene biosynthesis. Leukotrienes are important because of their involvement in various diseases, including asthma, inflammation and some allergic conditions. Much research has demonstrated the positive effects of caffeic acid on Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and even liver cancer.
